Therapist’s marathon effort for equipment
HINCKLEY healthworker Hayley Biggs is taking a shot at the London Marathon to help support local stroke victims.
The therapist who provide physio and occupational instruction wants to raise £1,500 for a specialised piece of kit.
The equipment, a SaeboMAS arm support, helps people who have had a stroke build up their arm strength by taking the weight of the arm, so allowing them to practice movements more easily.
Based at the Hinckley and Bosworth Community Hospital, the 27-year-old is a keen runner and a member of Team Anstey Amblers and Runners.
She said: “I apply for the London Marathon each year, never expecting to get a place.
“I was in shock really when I found out, it took a few hours for it to sink in that I was running in the London Marathon.
“A marathon isn’t something people take lightly.
“You are committing five or six days a week to training.
“Training isn’t easy, there are times when you think ‘Why am I doing this?’
“But thinking about how this will help the patients will give me the motivation to do all the training and complete the run.”
A Markfield resident, Hayley works for community and mental health services provider, Leicestershire Partnership Trust.
She gained her place through Raising Health, the trust’s in-house charity.
