Schoolgirl going a cut above for charity

-

A YOUNG schoolgirl is sacrificing her long locks to raise money for a charity supporting children with cancer.

Reya Clayton, six, will have 12 inches of hair chopped off during a school assembly at Grove Road Infant School in Burbage next month.

She will donate the hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes wigs for children affected by cancer.

The youngster is also on a mission to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

She smashed her original £150 target within the first two hours of launching a fundraising page and she is asking members of the public to back her campaign.

Her mum Charlotte said: “12 inches of hair is quite a lot, I think she’ll be in for a bit of a shock.

“But she’s so excited to get it done, she’s been growing it for ages now.

“Reya originally said she wanted to raise £100 and I thought she could easily achieve that, so we set the target at £150 instead.

“We’ve now raised more than £350 and she’s absolutely thrilled.

“We’re hoping to do the cut on April 7 during a school assembly and hopefully we can inspire other children to get involved because it’s a great cause.

“This was all Reya’s idea, she’s very perceptive of things and she asks questions if she sees something on television about cancer.

“I’m not sure where she heard of the Little Princess Trust but she says other people need her hair more than she does and she’s very excited to help out.”
