Outspoken MP will address business group
A SECOND speaker known for courting controversy has been invited to address business professionals in Hinckley.
Following on from the visit of Nicky Morgan, who riled PM Theresa May with her anti-trouser comments, Andrew Bridgen will be guest of honour at the next meeting of the Hinckley and District Chamber of Trade.
Chairman of the influential Regulatory Reform Select Committee, Mr Bridgen led the East Midlands Brexit campaign and in a dramatic intervention at the referendum said of David Cameron: “Whatever the results, I believe his position is untenable”.
The former Royal Marine whose family runs a vegetable processing plant - of which he was head for 25 years before entering Parliament - will visit on Tuesday April 11.
The meeting starts at 7pm in Cafe Espanol at the Atkins Building, Lower Bond Street, Hinckley.
Chamber president Rosemary Wright said the chamber was looking forward to welcoming the Tory MP: “During his time in Parliament he has been a prolific speaker campaigning on a variety of local and national issues, including grant funding to bring all of North West Leicestershire District Council housing up to the decent homes standard.
“Andrew has campaigned for better transport infrastructure and has worked with business and community groups to bring down the rate of unemployment in his district, North West Leicestershire.
“We admire his forthright and outspoken views and we have been trying for some time to encourage him to address the chamber and the business community.
“We all look forward to hearing his business knowledge as well as his experiences in Parliament and his views on how he expects Brexit will proceed and the outcome for this country.”
