Eight wins in a row for Leicester Road FC

-

AS THE teams head towards the business end of the season Leicester Road started their clash with Coventry Copswood in strong form hoping to make it eight wins in a row.

The opening minutes saw the home side retreating and forced to defend their 18-yard box.

This set the template for what would become a Leicester Road-dominated game.

At just before the 15-minute mark midfielder Tom McGlinchey got onto the through ball and managed to pull the ball back for striker Amarvir Sandhu to slot home to put Leicester Road in the lead.

Leicester Road’s second goal came from the penalty spot after Sandhu was chopped down in the penalty area on the 22nd minute.

It was full back Nick Hawkins who stepped up, sending Copsewood’s Dale O’Donnell the wrong way as he put it into the back of the net putting Leicester Road two up. Just five minutes later it was three when midfielder Jack Holt took advantage of O’Donnell being too far forward and delicately chipped the ball over him.

The second half saw an improved performance by Copsewood who started brightly and a cross from the right was volleyed just wide by Fraser.

But a still-dangerous Leicester Road made the most of a quick break but it was only O’Donnell’s quick reaction sparing a fourth against the home side.

Then attacking midfielder Billy Bennett, making his debut, fired across the face of goal for the visitors after some good close control.

On the 77th minute Bennett finished his debut after making a positive impact and was replaced by Daryl Thomas.

David Akinuli shot wide from inside the penalty area as Copsewood sought a way back into the match and he had another effort where the shot was slowed down by a Leicester Road defender.

With a few minutes to go before the final whistle Owen Whitehouse made his first team debut, coming on for midfielder Tom McGlinchey.

Although the game was won in the first 30 mins the management are calling this a well-earned three points.

The result sees Leicester Road on level points with Hinckley AFC with one game in hand. Coventry Copsewood 0 - 3 Leicester Road
