Adrian’s Marathon effort
A WEALTH consultant from Burbage is training up to run in the London Marathon.
Adrian Mee, 38, is running the 26.2-mile race in aid of Breast Cancer Now.
He hopes to raise £4,000 for the charity and to complete the race in under four hours.
Adrian previously competed in half-marathons and the Rothley 10K, which is sponsored by his employer, Mattioli Woods.
He has worked at the Grove Park-headquartered company for 10 years.
Adrian said: “We’ve had a couple of colleagues affected by cancer over the years.
“It’s so important organisations like BCN exist if we are ever to eradicate it.”
He is now scaling back his training to shorter distances in the build up to the annual event, on April 23.
Adrian added: “I’m now concentrating on things like strengthening exercises and muscle building and conditioning.
“I don’t particularly enjoy running but to come down The Mall in front of all those people will be a pretty special feeling.”
Lydia Amartey, corporate partnership officer at Breast Cancer Now, said: “We are so grateful for Adrian’s support. Breast cancer is a devastating disease that still cuts short the lives of around 11,500 women and 80 men each year.
“We’re powering research that’s finding new ways to prevent, detect and treat breast cancer until the day when we stop it once and for all.”
