Celebrate new life at Easter with Twycross
TWYCROSS Zoo is launching special holiday events this April as it marks Easter.
With plenty of animal babies born over the last year bosses at the attraction are emphasising the spring festival of new birth.
And, following the outcry which followed the apparent omission of Easter from the National Trust’s advertising of its egg hunts, the zoo is firmly marketing the events as a seasonal celebration, with natural history education thrown in for good measure.
A spokesman said: “Each day, visitors can take part in the Easter Egg Hunt, searching for hidden eggs around the zoo and find out intriguing facts about the zoo’s animals and enter the daily prize draw to win a 12-month membership for two people.
“There are also many animal babies and youngsters to visit at Twycross Zoo this Easter, including the latest arrival, critically endangered Bornean orangutan baby who shares the enclosure with its older sister, sixyear-old orangutan Molly, parents Maliku and Batu and grandmother Kibria.”
The events run from April 10 to 23 with sessions at the special Zoo Club, catering for eight to 14 year-olds, running each weekday.
Here youngsters will be able to learn about the animals and nature and wildlife conservation in general. Games and activities include making enrichment toys for the animals and helping the zookeepers with some of their daily tasks. Lucky participants may even be roped in to help give heath checks to some of the friendlier animals.
The zoo’s new catering partner Levy Restaurants UK has reinvigorated the Himalaya Centre with its new Vine Cafe and The View Restaurant just in time for the holidays.
Dr Charlotte Macdonald, director of life sciences says: “Easter is by its very nature a perfect time to learn more about animals and our natural world. At Twycross Zoo we always try offer something new to our visitors coming at this time of year and I am pleased to say that this year will be no exception.
“We have an amazing new orangutan baby, as well as a wealth of babies who have not even reached their first year of age, such as our Amur leopard cubs, gorilla baby and many of our monkey babies.”
Twycross Zoo is open to the public from 10am to 6pm. For more information about Zoo Club and other events, email bookings@twycrosszoo.org, call 0844 474 1777, or visit www.twycrosszoo.org
