Battling Bosworth beaten by front running Melbourne

-

LEADERS Melbourne held off a plucky challenge from Market Bosworth to eventually run out 43-13 winners.

Market Bosworth started in spectacular form, taking the game to the opposition and attacking well and showing lots of promise.

However, after sustaining Bosworth’s pressure for several minutes, Melbourne, who are top of Midlands 2 East (North), got a turnover at a maul and ran in a try at the other end of the pitch.

From the restart things started to go wrong for Bosworth. The kick did not go 10 metres and from the resultant scrum Melbourne ran in their second try which like the first they failed to convert.

Bosworth’s Josh Devlin was sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes during which time Melbourne failed to take any advantage and it was Bosworth who in fact made the better of it with a nicely taken penalty by Chris Harding as a reward for Melbourne’s prop pulling down the scrum.

With Devlin returned to the contest Bosworth continued to put pressure on the home side and kept play within 10 metres of the Melbourne line for a considerable time, Will Clarke coming close to scoring but was well tackled close to the line. A heel against the head by Jack McWhirter gave Josh Devlin a scoring opportunity which he took well to bring Bosworth to within four points at half time.

The second half started badly for Bosworth and went from bad to worse. Within minutes Melbourne scored with a pushover try, followed quickly by their winger running in a superb solo effort and then doing the same thing again shortly afterwards. Two of the tries were converted. Bosworth did not buckle under the onslaught and took the game back to Melbourne’s line and James Driver managed to take the ball over from a rolling maul. Bosworth kept playing good entertaining rugby but it was Melbourne who managed to score two more tries before the referee called an end to proceedings.

This Saturday Bosworth entertain Matlock (3pm) in a game which was postponed two weeks ago due to the death of one of the away side’s coaches.
