Crime mystery drama to take to the stage

-

A THEATRICAL group in Hinckley is putting on an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery play.

Trinity Players is performing Tabitha at the Trinity centre in Trinity Vicarage Road.

Written by Dad’s Army star Arnold Ridley, and his sister Mary Cathcart Borer, the play takes place on Christmas Eve, and is about three female friends who believe they know who killed Tabitha.

Lavinia, Ruth and Janet band together to track down the culprit and bring them to justice, but all does not go to plan as the night unfolds.

Seemingly more than one person had the opportunity to commit the murder, and the police may be looking in the wrong place.

The cast have been hard at work rehearsing, with the three title roles of sprightly older ladies being played by Linda Smith, Maureen Quitterton and returning member Tricia Bannister.

Andy Johnson takes on the role of the inspector, a stark contrast to his previous role as a pantomime dame last year.

Former Mayor Hinckley Jeff Bannister is jeweller and lifelong friend of the three ladies, Mr Fawcett.

Long-standing members of Trinity Players make up the rest of the cast, with support from a back-stage crew and front-of-house staff.

The director is Fiona Gurney, who directed the players’ Agatha Christie drama last year.

Larraine Eccleston will be co-directing by her side, in her first work as a director.

This is the 16th play written by Arnold Ridley, better known as Private Godfrey from Dad’s Army.

Ridley died in 1984, but his grand-niece Daisy took up the acting mantle, playing the lead role of Rey in the Star Wars sequel films.

The play is on Thursday, Friday and Saturday April 27, 28 and 29, at 7.30pm.

Tickets (£6) can be bought on the door, in Wollyhippo on Regent Street, or from Lynn Bradley via Hinckley 440954.
