Hero pulls driver from burning car

-

AN INJURED driver was rescued from a burning car by a quick-thinking member of the public after a smash on the A5.

The car, a Silver Ford Focus, burst into flames after a collision with another car near The Kings Lodge, Nuneaton.

Fire crews arrived on the scene on Sunday at around 11.20am to find the car ablaze and the driver pulled free.

A Nuneaton Fire Station spokesperson said they initially received 999 calls to report that a car was on fire and a person was trapped inside.

When firefighters arrived they found the man inside the car had been pulled out by a member of the public.

Police immediately closed off the A5 between the A444 and the A47 so that medics could tend to the injured man, who has not been identified but is aged in his 30s.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said that the man was suffering from a serious head injury and a possible pelvic injury.

He was sedated at the scene and was taken by ambulance, with medics from the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance on board to the University Hospital Coventry and shire (UHCW).

He was said to be in a serious condition.

The driver of the other vehicle, a man in his 40s, suffered a cut to his head and chest pain and was given pain relief at the scene before being taken to the UHCW. The stretch of road remained closed for several hours, with diversions in place, following the serious incident. Warwick-
