Police traffic operation
MORE than 50 vehicles were stopped during a police traffic operation in Leicestershire.
Officers from Hinckley & Blaby Neighbourhood Priority Team stopped the vehicles for a range of offences at Optimus Point in Glenfield in what has been described as a “successful traffic operation”.
A total of five vehicles were seized from 9am to 2.30pm on May 3.: two for not being insured, two for not having an excise licence, and another on suspicion of being stolen.
Twelve drivers did not wear seatbelts, a further two reports were issued for passengers not wearing theirs.
One person was caught driving using a hand-held device, another didn’t have an MOT, and two were reported for tyre tread offences.
HMRC dipped 28 fuel tanks for the illegal use of red diesel, with none found.
Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) issued six prohibition notices in relation to tyre offences, while Trading Standards officers advised four drivers about their vehicles.
PC Tim Bennett, from Leicestershire Police said: “The aim of the operation was to target criminals using the road network specifically around the A46 and B5380 in Glenfield.”
He added that it was “an excellent opportunity to work with partners and ensure drivers are using the road safely.”
Similar operations are planned for throughout the year.
Representatives from the Environment Agency were also involved in the operation.
