Town find home team’s total a tall order to beat

HINCKLEY Town visited top of the table Newtown Linford on Saturday who have a reputation as a high-scoring team particular­ly on their own ground.

This proved to be true as the hosts scored a formidable 321-6 in 45 overs after being put into bat.

The opening pair of Dean Scaysbrook and Philip Lowe put on 24 for the first wicket before Scaysbrook was caught by Town skipperRaj Sen from a Mo Bhola ball for seven

This became 61-2 in the tenth over and this brought in captain Craig Chapman who caused havoc scoring 138 off 83 balls which included 15 fours and eight sixes.

He shared a fourth wicket partnershi­p of 66 with Fred Bainbridge but the main partnershi­p was for the fifth wicket where he and David Woods put on 113 in 13 overs of which Chapman contribute­d 94 taking the score onto 258-5 after 38 overs.

At which point Chapman was caught by Rishi Panchal after a Ashwin Vinod ball for his 138.

Newtown Linford then scored 63 in the last seven overs mainly due to 34 not out by Woods and Armson who finished 36 not out leaving the home side on 321-6 after 45 overs.

Bhola and Vinod both took two wickets for Hinckley.

In reply to this big total Hinckley’s opening pair put on 89 when opener Craig Crowe was bowled by Steve Armson for 47.

A second stand of 52 between captain Sen and Priyank Patel kept Hinckley in the game but they were far behind the run rate.

When Sen was out for 52 Hinckley were 141-2 after 29.5 overs.

Patel and Panchal took the score on to 183-3 when Patel was caught by Jon Dale, bowled by Armson for 58 runs.

After their 45 overs Hinckley finished on 203-5.

Best bowling figures for Newtown were by Armson who took three wickets for 52.

Hinckley took nine points from this encounter leaving them midtable.

Next week they host Loughborou­gh 2nd XI.
