Mother and daughter stride out for Toby

-

A MOTHER and daughter duo walked 90 miles from Leicester to Skegness to raise money for Rainbows Hospice for children and young people.

Jac Burbank and her daughter Stacey French took on the challenge in memory of their nephew and cousin Toby Danielle who was born with a rare genetic disorder called GM1 Gangliosidosis and died aged 16 months.

The women, who both work at Hinckleybased printing firm Checkprint, walked from Leicester’s Clock Tower to the seaside town in three days and generated £2,000 for the Loughborough based care centre which serves the whole of the East Midlands.

Gangliosidosis, with a mutation of the GM1 gene, is an inherited disorder which affects the brain and spinal cord and causes a decreased life expectancy.

It can affect 1 in every 36,000 babies.

Mrs Burbank said: “We are very grateful to everyone who has donated money to such a worthwhile cause.

“Rainbows provided fantastic support to our family during this very difficult time and we are pleased to have been able to help them continue to help other local families in similar situations to ours.

“Walking such a long distance for three days straight was exhausting but we just wanted to keep going for Toby.”
