Prize cake is a right royal attraction at village event
ROYAL cake maker Fiona Cairns has offered one of her edible creations to raise money for Cadeby Church.
The Leicestershire-based baker, famous for making Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding cake, is to donate one of her royally-appointed treats as the star raffle prize at Cadeby fete on Saturday July 29.
It will help to raise money for the maintenance of the parish church of All Saints, whose former Vicar, the Rev Teddy Boston, was the inspiration for the character of The Fat Clergyman in the Thomas the Tank Engine books.
The fete will be held at the double venue of Manor Farm and The Limes on Main Street from 2pm, with the raffle to be drawn at around 4pm.
Fete-goers inspired by its celebrity support are being encouraged to enter a bakeoff contest for the best Victoria sponge, with a menonly class, and best decorated cupcakes competition for children.
The competition recipe will be posted on the Cadeby village website.
Other extra treats this year include live music, a Pimm’s tent and fresh strawberries for sale.
Traditional teas and home-made cakes will be served in the garden at The Limes where there will also be plant sales, supported by Woodlands garden centre, Stapleton, and other attractions.
Stalls, games and sideshows, including clothes, shoes and jewellery, white elephant, tombola, home baking and preserves, will be set out in the grounds of neighbouring Manor Farm.
A children’s corner will include pre-loved clothes, toys and accessories.
In a change from previous years, parking will be provided in a field with direct access to the site.
The £1 adult admission price will allow entry to both venues and accompanied children can enjoy the whole event for free.
Cadeby Church is opened daily.
