A HOME-GROWN charity offering holidays for the families of young cancer patients is gearing up for its fourth annual fundraising festival.

Supporters of Abbie’s Hideaway will be hosting the event at Hinckley Rugby Club on Leicester Road on Saturday July 29, with weekend camping available on site from Friday July 28.

The charity was set up in memory of 16-year-old John Cleveland College student Abbie Mustard who died from acute promyelocytic leukaemia in 2012.

It offers free family holidays for groups of up to eight in a modified caravan near Mablethorpe, providing precious time together for children undergoing cancer treatment, their parents and siblings.

Entirely reliant on public funding, the caravan is already fully booked for the rest of this year.

Abbie’s dad Ian Mustard said: “Demand is getting higher for the holiday home sadly and we are even taking bookings for next year now but it’s a fantastic legacy for Abbie.”

The fun day, which starts at 10am, is the char- ity’s biggest annual fundraiser, having generated up to £7,000 in good weather.

Entry is £5 for anyone over 14 (under 14s free) or £10 for a weekend camp- ing pass.

There will be trade stands, children’s funfair rides, an air riffle shooting range, clothes, cakes, crafts and catering including Jamaican food, candy floss, slush drinks, doughnuts, jacket potatoes, popcorn and fresh fruit.

Top prize in a raffle will be a restored 1960s Lambretta to be presented to a winner on the day.

Live bands will play from 2pm until late, interspersed with DJ sessions, a fireworks display, custom scooter show and a Transformers v Batman display from 1.15pm until 1.45pm.

Ian said: “This is or fourth annual family fun day and we’ve pulled out all the stops to make this one a great one and not to be missed.”
