ANGLERS fishing the two midweek contests on the Ashby Canal took advantage of a bream feeding spree, with some excellant catches being made.

Wednesday’s Measham evening contest, fished on the Globe length at Snarestone, produced a superb 13lb 10oz-winning catch for Andy Smith.

Drawn in the middle of the length Andy landed seven bream to finish with one of the biggest winning catches for some time.

Pete Allwood came second with a 6lb 1oz catch of small bream while Darren Massey could only finish in third place with 5lb 13ozs.

Tuesday evening’s Shackersto­ne members contest was fished along the Monthills.

Failed carp angler Kev Milne took the honours with a 7lb 3oz catch of bream. John Gamble continued his good form taking second place with 5lb 13ozs of small bream. Mick Smith finished third with another bream catch weighing 4lb 15oz.

Higham Lane’s Wednesday Evening “Bag Up” Open match produced the best winning weight so far as Lee Farmer took the honours from peg 20.

Four big carp landed in the last hour from the margins, put an extra 40lb in his net as he finish with a 84lb 9oz catch. Andy Stewart fished a waggler close in to land 46lb 7ozs for second place with Guy Hope coming third with a 42lb 11oz catch.

Andy Findley took full advantage of the extra room when the angler on the nearest peg decided not to fish in Lychgate Fisheries Saturday Open match. Drawn on peg 33 Andy landed 65lb 10ozs to win. Colin Chapman finished second, with a 48lb 12oz catch from peg 52. Dave Hurlston was third, just two ounces behind with a 48lb 10oz catch.

Darryl Moore took the honours in Maynes Lakes’ Midweek Open for the second successive week. Using a method feeder on the end of a pole allowed him to fish tight to the far bank where he caught 35lb 15ozs to win.

Results: section one: Darryl Moore, peg 24. Section two: Tony Simmonetti, 34lb 5oz, peg 35. Section three: Alan Wilson, 19lb 11ozs. Section four: Johnathan Harvey, 27lb 10ozs.

Wednesday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match was won by Robin Duffy, who was making his first visit to the fishery. Drawn on peg 38 Robin landed 42lb 10ozs of mainly carp to win the match and qualify for the Lychomania final at his first attempt!

Martin Thompson took second place with a 37lb 12oz catch from peg 40. Richard Harvey finished third with a 37lb 10oz catch.

After vowing never to return to Higham Lane Fishery after a run when he didn’t catch, Terry Sanderson’s return proved to be successful with a win in the Thursday Open match.

Drawn on peg 5 Terry fished “bomb and pellet” to land 78lb 6ozs of carp. Dave Massey finished second with a 72lb 9oz catch while Dave Ale came third with 42lb 11ozs.

The top two in Lychgate Fisheries Sunday Afternoon Open match both weighed over 100lbs. Leading the way was Lee Hanson with a superb 124lb catch from peg 42. Pete Jupp came second with a 118lb 4oz catch with Ash Edwards finishing third with 94lb 12ozs.

Mill on the Soar’s Tuesday Open match was won by John Gibson with a 35lb 8oz catch of carp and bream from peg 28. Shaun Smith finished second with 27lb 11oz catch from peg 31 with the in-form Pete White taking third place with a 25lb catch.

Measham’s away match on the Coventry Canal at Alvercote found heavy boat traffic on the match length.

The top three catches came from the first three pegs as the rest struggled with the boats. Andy Smith weighed 4lb 6ozs to win, Terry Smith came second with 3lb 7ozs . Pete Deacon finished third with 3lb 5ozs.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open / Lychomania qualifier match every Saturday draw 9am and Sunday afternoon, draw 12.30pm.

Shackersto­ne have their Members Waring Cup match this Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Higham Lane have arranged an open match for this Sunday. Draw 9am.

Mill on the Soar have an open match every Tuesday, draw 8.30am.

Shackersto­ne have a Members Evening Match on the canal, draw 5.30pm at the Rising Sun.

Maynes Lakes have an open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an open / Lychomania match every Wednesday, draw 9am.

Higham Lane have an evening open match every Wednesday, draw 5.30pm.

Measham have an open match every Wednesday evening on the canal at Snarestone, draw 5.30pm at the Globe Inn.
