Brilliant batting sees Hinckley overcome big tally

HINCKLEY Town produced their best batting performanc­e of the season on Saturday at Leicester Road when they chased down Newtown Linford’s large total of 267 to win by five wickets.

Hinckley won the toss and elected to field and Newtown got off to a good start putting on 50 for the first wicket in nine overs.

Phil Lowe was first out caught in the slips by Craig Crowe off the bowling of Suki Singh for 13.

Dangerman Dean Scarysbroo­k made a rapid 42 but was out with the score on 76-3.

This brought in Brandon Brodell who proved to be the main stay of Newtown’s innings.

But wickets fell at regular intervals and Hinckley seemed to be on top when Newtown found themselves 188-7 after 34 overs.

At this point Brodell was 64 not out and he was joined at the crease by Jon Dale and they put together a eighth wicket part- nership of 73 that seemed to sway the game Newtown way.

Dale was out for 30, caught Janack Valand, bowled Suki Singh leaving Newtown 261-8.

Their innings finished on an impressive 267-8 after 45 overs.

Brodell was still at the crease at the end and finished on 107 not out.

Captain Rag Sen took three wickets for Hinckley and Singh two.

Hinckley replied in a positive manner Crowe and Asaad Pathan putting on 66 for the first wicket.

Pathan was out for 16 and Shaid Abrar joined Crowe and they put on 74 runs leaving Hinckley 140-2 after 24 overs at which point Abrar was out for 21 caught and bowled Jon Dale.

The game seemed evenly poised and Crowe and Janack Valand took the score on to 176 until Crowe was out for an impressive 93, caught Sam Bates bowled Tim Bennett.

Captain Sen joined Valand and when Valand was out for 33 Hinckley needed 67 from nine overs to win.

Sen and Pinto Patel produced the goods taking Hinckley on to 262-5 in the 43rd over.

Sen was out for 30 and Hinckley reached their target after 43.4 overs when Mo Bhola hit a four to win the game, Pinto Patel remaining 28 not out.

The win saw Hinckley gain 25 points to Newtown’s seven.
