Sketchley Brook clean up needs you!

-

A CAMPAIGN to clean up a litterladen area of Burbage is in need of volunteers.

Enthusiastic hands are required to help with the Sketchley Corridor Improvement Project and get stuck into tidying the brook area behind the Brookside houses.

The stream used to be a haven for fish, amphibians and other wildlife but has become overgrown and blocked with refuse and debris.

In a bid to nuture nature and bring the brook back to life a clean up is taking place from 10am to 2pm on Sunday September 17. Everyone is welcome to attend for as little or as long as they are able.

Places must be booked however, as equipment and gloves for the initiative are being provided by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and numbers need to be known.

Anyone wanting to work in the brook can be given waterproof trousers but they must bring their own wellies.

Workers from the council will be going in first to cut back the vegetation so the volunteer team can get to the brook easily.

All sorts of tasks are planned including clearing rubbish and debris from the brook, cutting back overgrown plants, picking up litter, using test kits to check the water quality, scattering wildflowers and helping record the event by taking photos of people working.

To book a place visit the eventbrite website and search for Sketchley Brook Cleanup.
