People should have some compassion
I WOULD like to express my shock and disgust at the comments by Rose Collingwood about hidden disabilities and the Blue Badge system.
She says that allocating the badges to those with (her quotation marks) “hidden” disabilities is “overt tokenism”.
Does she even know what these hidden disabilities include?
Let me list some of them for her and your readers:
Psychiatric Disabilities—Examples include major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, etc. Traumatic Brain Injury Epilepsy Diabetes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Cystic Fibrosis Attention Deficit-Disrorder or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder(ADD/ADHD) Learning Disabilities (LD) Autism Issues with sight or hearing where obvious aids cannot be seen.
Is she seriously saying that it is tokenism to include people who experience these kinds of disabilities in the Blue Badge system? Really?
What about people with heart problems who may struggle to walk very far? Youngsters with Autism who have serious issues when outside the house?
I hope Rose Collingwood is very careful if she challenges someone who is using a Blue Badge. She seems to be very sure that the system is being “widely abused”.
Perhaps she is assuming much.
I also hope that she never experiences a situation like this for herself or a loved one. Have some compassion, Rose. Anne Robinson
