Church worship boosted by new organist

-

A NEW organist has been welcomed to St Catherine’s Church in Burbage.

Phillip Herbert, from Hinckley, was officially introduced to the congregation during a service at Candlemas, at the beginning of February, by the Rector of Burbage with Aston Flamville, the Rev Andrew Hall.

Mr Herbert, who has played since a child, has performed at York Minster, Lincoln Minster, Winchester Kirkwall, Liverpool Anglican cathedral, Bridlington Priory, Freiborg and the Basilica St Jackobi in Neustadt in the Black Forest among others.

He became secretary of the Leicester and District Organists’ Association 14 years ago, after retiring from a 30-year career in the motor industry in Coventry.

Rev Hall said: “I am thrilled to have such an experienced organist on the keys.

“Philip has a proven track record bringing with him experience, flair and panache, which will enhance our worship and help us as we seek to develop the both our musical ability and the choir at St Catherine’s.”

Mr Herbert will play for all the main services including Sunday holy communion at 10.30am and evensong at 6pm, and will be available to play at weddings and for other occasions.

As a result of Mr Herbert’s appointment, St Catherine’s is now looking to expand its choir.

Anyone interested, whatever their age or choral experience, is invited to find out more by attending a rehearsal at the church on a Friday evening from 7pm.
