Amazing comeback for Darren after three month absence

MILL St Motors angler Darren Walters hadn’t been fishing for over three months, but he proved that he’d lost none of his magic when he won the Makin’s Sunday Open in convincing style.

Fished on Phase Three, Darren drew peg Two on the Thames pool where he Pole fished sweet corn to catch fish all day.

Finishing with a massive match winning 105lb 11ozs.

Next best catch on the Thames pool was just 38lbs.

Makin’s Fishery also proved to be a happy hunting ground for another local angler as Alan Grewcock doubled the runners-up catch to win the mid week Nisa Open match fished on Phase One.

Drawn on Lake Two’s peg A20 Alan used “bomb and bread” tactics to land 72lb 2oz of carp to take the honours.

Lychgate Fisheries Sunday Open produced some excellent results as it finally stopped raining.

Leading the way was Mark Sidwells who pole fished maggot on peg 54 to catch carp and around 14lb of bream for a winning 64lb 10ozs.

Paul Gardner made an all carp catch on “bomb & bread” from peg 45 to take second place with 51lb 4ozs.

Jonny Harvey made a great start, catching four big carp in the first hour, but then struggled for the rest of the match just adding odd fish to finish third with 44lb 4ozs. Richard Leatherlan­d came fourth with 36lb 12ozs while Andy Findley completed the prize list with a 30lb 2oz catch.

Guy Hope took the honours in Thursday’s Higham Lane Open match catching 36lb 9oz of carp from peg eight.

Dave Hurlston came a close second with 35lb 9ozs while John Varley finished third with 27lb 4ozs.

There was a big turn out for Maynes Lakes Wednesday Open, which are now being fished over five hours.

Leading he way was Alby Behl with a 22lb 15oz catch from peg 35 on Pool One.

Top catch from Pool Two was made by Chris Edwards with 13lb 10ozs from peg eight. Steve Spencer finished top on Pool Three with a 15lb 15oz catch from peg 42.

After finishing second on the last few Brookfield Open matches at Stoke Golding, Ray Lewis finally took the honours in Sunday’s contest with a 31lb catch of carp from peg 24. Danny Ross came second with a 17lb 12oz catch.

Stu Campton finished third with 7lb 12ozs.

Lychgate Fisheries Saturday Open match was won by Steve Zseli.

Drawn on peg 35 Steve pole fished maggot to catch four carp, five decent bream and a lot of silver fish to weigh 33lb 14ozs.

Terry Brindley came second with a 24lb 2oz catch. Dan Eaton finished third with 23lb 6ozs.

There was another close finish to Saturday’s Higham Lane Open with under 1lb separating the top two.

Dean Hughes won with a 35lb 9oz catch from peg five, while Mr Runner Up, Dave Hurlston weighed 34lb 11oz to finish second again.

Jim Spradbury caught 28lb 6ozs to take third place.

Shackersto­ne Angling Club hold their Annual General Meeting at the Rising Sun in Shackersto­ne on April 10 starting at 7.30pm prompt.

Higham Lane Fishery have Open matches every Thursday and Saturday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an Open match every Saturday, draw 9.15am and every Sunday, draw 11am, fishing 12noon until 5pm.

Brookfield have an Open match at Stoke Golding this Sunday, draw 9am.

Maynes Lake Wednesday Open’s continue throughout the Summer being fished over five hours. Draw at 10am, fishing 11am till 4pm.

Lychgate Fisheries have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.
