No easy ride for Champions-elect

-

IN the PWS Leicester Division One champions-elect Athletico Duke were made to fight all the way in their game against FC Topps Reserves who were well worth their 1-0 half time lead courtesy of a Connor Beasley goal.

Duke hit back after the break through goals from Ben Wright (2), Liam Brody and Nathan Goddard to take the points but the scoreline flattered them and Topps were unlucky not to get something from the game.

Wykin had an emphatic 7-0 win at Stanton United Old Boys with Ryan Cheshire and Steve Hamlett both adding doubles to goals from Lee Lovett, Ryan Forryan and Matt Burt to maintain the pressure on Ullesthorpe in second spot.

Stanton have their rearranged CS Construction Junior Cup semi-final next weekend when they face Coalville Miners at Coalville Town’s ground.

Shilton United were the only team in the top three to play in the Printing Works Division Two and they moved to within two points of the top after a narrow 4-3 win at Red Lion.

Scorers for the hosts were Jonno Fields, Steve Foster and Antony Smedley.

Shilton United goals came from Ben Harding, George Harding, Josh Weaving and Kieran Almey.

The points were shared in the game between AFC Barn and The Holywell with Damian Haswell and Mathew Wright on target for Barn.

Scott Maxwell and Chris Barber came up with replies for Holywell.
