Leicester Road back to winning ways

-

HINCKLEY’S Leicester Road FC eventually secured a comfortable 3-1 home victory over Littleton FC – with well-taken second half goals from Jarred Acton, Jordan Burrows and Matt Langham.

The first half was in all honesty a drab 0-0 stalemate, as both teams cancelled each other out, but a superb second period performance saw the Road get back to winning ways.

The opener came in spectacular fashion as Acton intercepted the ball on the half way line before driving forward and smashing an absolute rocket into the far top corner from 35 yards.

The second wasn’t half bad either.

After good play down the left by the overlapping Jack Harrison, his pinpoint cross fell to Burrows who cut across it on the half volley and buried it into the bottom corner to double the lead.

The third came after a slick counter.

Skipper Greg Downes pressed his opposite number in midfield, won the ball and threaded a pass through to Langham, who converted his 17th of the season by expertly firing across the keeper into the far corner to make it 3-0.

In the aftermath of the third, Littleton were reduced to 10 men.

However the pressed on and they did get a consolation goal late on with a back post header from a corner.

The win will boost confidence at Leicester Road following a recent away draw and home defeat in difficult conditions.
