Burbage Carnival preview
MUSIC fans will be turning up the volume and hoping for sunny spells as Burbage Carnival 2018 comes to town.
The theme for this Sunday’s event is Music Icons past and present, with procession leader Lynn Elkington saying her costume will be “blue with an impressive headdress”.
She will lead a group of dancers from Mys2dio, followed by floats including this year’s royal family, made up of prince Finley Killip, 7, and princess Lauren Farmer, 12.
The procession will leave from out- side the Sycamores pub on Windsor Street at noon, with the road to be closed from 11.30am.
The floats will go along Windsor Street, Coventry Road, Pyeharps Road, Sketchley Road, Boyslade Road, Forresters Road, Hinckley Road and Church Street.
Britannia Fields is again hosting the Carnival field, where organisers expect around 6,000 visitors.
The field will be open from noon with an entry fee to pay in support of local groups and organisations.
A variety of stalls will be set up for visitors to view and refreshments will be available.
As the event coinicides with Father’s Day, a Best Dad in Burbage competition is going on, with organisers asking people to send in messages explaining why they have the prime papa.
Three finalists will be chosen and notified on Friday June 15, who must be able to attend on Sunday.
Prizes will be given out at the arena on at 1pm and will be suitable Father’s Day presents.
You can also bag a Father’s Day prize if you can find one of three special stones hidden on the field as part of the #IslaStones campaign, or one with the Leicester City badge.
Performances on the field include Mys2dio, TKT Cheerleading, Drama Tots, Kuk Wool Son of Hinckley.
