New-look team keeps up the winning ways

-

HINCKLEY As had their first game of the season at home to Bulkington A.

Previous history has seen Hinckley come out successful but as it is a new season with new players, Hinckley wanted to ensure they started as they meant to go on. Hinckley have had some pregnancy news and people in new positions, an entire new defence with slight changes in attack.

Hinckley started as if there hadn’t been a break in the season, play flowed beautifully from defence to attack, the timing of play was impressive and the shooters were taking their opportunities.

Hinckley were winning going into the second quarter which unfortunately was not as impressive as the first! At half time only 4 goals separated the two and it was incredibly close. Bulkington got into the game and were frustrating the Hinckley defence, centre court and shooters.

Hinckley made a few changes to ensure the feeds into the circle were as effective to extend their lead further. The new defensive duo in the circle, Rebecca Oldfield and Emma Draycott kept Bulkington at bay by being much tighter on their players, with Jessica Rainbow WD, bringing the ball down court smoothly to transition into attack. Holly Hemsley is new to the A team and she took every opportunity to bag a goal, superb shooting allowed Hinckley to win the game 38-27. Player of the match went to Jessica Rainbow! B team Vs JLR A Hinckley Ladies B team got off to a flying start of the season beating JLR A team 47 - 30.

After a strong first quarter the team held their lead the whole game. All 8 players managed to get some game time even though Caron had only arrived back from Australia the day before! Anna and Emily put up some fantastic shots with defence holding their players strong.

Player of the match went to Steph Morton playing GD but it could have easily have gone to any of the other play- ers as everyone had a great first match! C team v Whitnash Hinckley C’s new line up took on the experienced Whitnash this week. Hinckley soon found themselves behind as they found their feet and the visitors took advantage with their well rehearsed moves around court.

Hinckley went into the second quarter 9-14 down but more settled and managed to keep the score to 17-26 at half time. The third quarter Hinckley fought back well, defending hard and carrying the ball down court with more confidence to narrow the margin slightly.

However, despite Hinckley’s great efforts in the last quarter and some good goals from shooters Lucy Marsden and Fran Tomassoni they couldn’t do enough to stop Whitnash’s momentum and they lost the match 33-44. Player of the match went to WA Liz Newman for her dynamic performance both in attack and defence. D team Vs Henley E The first match of the season saw a gorgeous sunny day to welcome them all back on court. For many D teamers this was their first ever senior league match. The first quarter saw Hinckley outplayed by a more experienced Henley team, who took a 14-4 lead.

This continued in the second quarter where Hinckley were punished for some of their inaccurate passes.

Their strong defence worked hard at intercepting wherever they could, and they swiftly sent the ball back down court.

In their own goal circle, Henley’s goal shooter left little opportunity for rebound interceptions, and her accurate shooting consistently pulled them further ahead each quarter of the game. Hinckley spirit was undampened throughout the match.

Despite having little opportunity to catch up, they fought for every ball and remained upbeat throughout, resulting in a friendly and positive first match despite the 54-14 end score. Lots to work on but great team spirit and determination.
