Bad luck for Bates is good fortune for Duffy who takes win

WHEN Paul Bates foul hooked and lost a big carp two days earlier, little did he know that it would cost him in Lychgates Wednesday Open!

Chris Duffy managed to land the fish, which weighed around 8lb, when his hook caught the line, and it gave him the win by just 2ozs!

Drawn on peg 50 Chris finished with a 39lb 4oz total while Paul had to settle for second place, having caught 24lb of bream and two carp to weigh 39lb 2ozs. Ian Stripp finished third with a 27lb 4oz catch.

The seventh round of the Pete Hogg Memorial series on the canal was fished along the Globe length at Snarestone.

For once the bream failed to show and perch made up all the leading catches. Andy Smith, caught four perch, including a superb 2lb 6oz specimen in his winning 2lb 15ozs catch. Pete Deacon came second with 2lb 2ozs of small perch with Hubert Noar weighing 1lb 6ozs for third place.

Lutterwort­h made the short trip to Frizeland Pools at Market Bosworth for their latest contest. Ian Stripp took the honours with a huge 171lb 11oz catch of carp from peg 24. Martin Smith finished second with 155lbs while Mick Davies came third with 74lb 3ozs.

There was a close finish to Lychgate’s Fine Line Friday Silver Fish Open. Dan Eaton taking the honours from peg 2 with a 14lb 10oz catch. Dave Armstrong came second with a level 14lb while Colin Chapman was third with 8lb 9ozs.

It was almost a full house for Higham Lane’s Thursday Open where Chris Whyte took the honours. Drawn on peg 1 Chris struggled for most of the match but caught some big carp on the pole in the last two hours to finish with 55lb 9ozs.

John Varly used pellet feeder tactic’s on peg 12 to land 47lb 11ozs for second place while Dave Hurlston finished third with 42lb 9ozs.

With the weather turning colder, sport was harder than of late for Lychgate’s Sunday Open. But that didn’t stop Andy Findlay, who yet again waved his magic wand, to finish with a winning 103lb 4oz catch from peg 42. Dan Eaton came second with 77lb 2ozs while Jonny Harvey was third with 60lb 12ozs.

Lychgate Fisheries Saturday Open was won by the inform Paul Bates. Fishing peg 49, Paul fished the deeper water down the middle to take the honours and the Golden Peg prize with a 79lb 4oz catch.

Steve Brindley finished second from peg 33 with a 63lb 6oz catch.

Higham Lane Fishery have an Open match every Thursday, and this week (Oct 6th), they have an Open match on Saturday. Draw for both at 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have their Fine Line Friday Silver Fish Open, draw 9am.

Then on Saturday there the normal Open, again draw at 9am. Sunday’s Open has an earlier draw time, it’s now an 11am draw, fishing 12noon till 5pm.

he final round of the Pete Hogg Memorial series takes place this Saturday, Draw 1pm at the Rising Sun.

Brookfield have an Open match at Stoke Golding this Sunday, draw 9am.

Shackersto­ne hold their Members Wardle Cup contest this Sunday, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Maynes Lakes have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.
