-

HINCKLEY U15s overcame a big black country side to record their fourth consecutive win of the season with a 52-22 victory, in another bruising encounter.

Hinckley finally made the first breakthrough, turning the ball over from a Wolverhampton line-out and passing out to Jacques who powered through from the halfway line in style to score under the posts. Drakeford converted to give Hinckley a 7-0 lead.

Hinckley’s second try shortly followed when Moore sliced through for a brilliant score, increasing Hinckley’s lead to 12-0.

The Wolves fought back and were rewarded with a try as their burly number 8 charged through from a penalty 5m out, taking the score to 12-7.

Hinckley weren’t phased and Wainde smartly passed to Moore who ran a superb line to cut through for his second and Hinckley’s third try. Drakeford split the uprights extending the black and amber’s lead to 19-7.

Hinckley maintained the momentum and were soon on the scoreboard again, Hutton taking a quick penalty with Moore, then Jacques in support, who ploughed over for his second try of the match. The conversion bounced back off the post but Hinckley’s lead had increased to 24-7.

Hinckley kicked off the second period and a spirited Wolverhampton side continued their offensive, forcing another penalty on Hinckley’s 5m line, and scored their second try as one player crashed his way over.

Hinckley retaliated immediately from the re-start, Miller taking a superb catch from a line-out before off-loading to Wainde, whose pass found Drakeford on the charge to dart through for an excellent try. His conversion sailed over increasing Hinckley’s advantage to 31-12.

Hinckley’s sixth try shortly followed, Barnes making the initial break with Jacques in support, who showed he is back to full strength by bursting through with an incredible run from the halfway line until he was eventually tackled 2m short of the line.

A. Whittingham showed brilliant support play to take the ball and splashdown under the sticks. Drakeford converted to give Hinckley a commanding 38-12 lead.

The Wolves seemed to have their tails between their legs, and Hinckley attacked again as the game re-commenced through strong runs by Barnes, A. Whittingham, McManus and Newitt. Hinckley were awarded a line-out on Wolverhampton’s 22, and the ball found Jacques at pace in the centre who crashed through for a fantastic hat-trick, which Drakeford converted to increase the home side’s lead to 45-12.

The Wolves were determined to reduce the deficit, keeping the ball with their powerful forwards to try and break Hinckley’s defensive line down. The strategy ultimately paid off, as they forced their way over from a 5m scrum taking the scoreline to 45-17.

Hinckley bounced straight back and hit the half-century shortly after the re-start, turning over the ball following brilliant tackles by Moore, Mensforth-Grove, Drakeford, Golding and Dewfield. Burton and McManus bulldozed their way over the halfway line with bullish runs, before Moore danced his way through for a scintillating score. Drakeford’s superbly struck conversion from the touchline sailed over, extending the black and amber’s lead to 52-17.

Wolverhampton scored a late consolation try.
