Po­lice ap­peal after van driver is hit by car

A van driver was hit by a car when he ap­proached it to speak to the per­son at the wheel.

The driver, who suf­fered cuts and bruises, had ear­lier been in­volved in what po­lice de­scribed as a “driv­ing in­ci­dent’’ with the oc­cu­pant of the small sil­ver car.

The ini­tial in­ci­dent hap­pened in Copt Oak, near Coalville, be­tween 6pm and 6.30pm last Tues­day, after the two ve­hi­cles had left the M1 at junc­tion 22. He was hit by the car soon after- wards at the junc­tion of the A511 and Whitwick Road, near Coalville.

Po­lice said: “The driver of a white Mercedes van was in­volved in a driv­ing in­ci­dent with a small sil­ver car as the two cars left the M1.

“Both ve­hi­cles trav­elled along the A511 and stopped at the exit road onto Whitwick Road, close to the road­works on the bridge.

“The driver of the van ap­proached the sil­ver car to speak to the driver and in the process of the sil­ver ve­hi­cle leav­ing the scene, he was struck by the car.”
