Driver is arrested after car hits pole
Incident happened in early hours of Sunday
A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a car left a road and crashed into a telegraph pole.
Police, who were called out at 2.20am on Sunday, said the driver left the scene where the telegraph pole was left lying across and blocking a section of the A447 Ashby Road on the outskirts of Hinckley.
Officers later found the driver, who was suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to hospital.
A section of the A447 between the Nags Head pub and the Hinckley and Bosworth Community Hospital was closed between 2.45am and 11.55am on Sunday.
A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to the A447 Hinck- ley just after 2.20am following a report that a car had collided with a telegraph pole.
“Officers attended the incident and found a car at the scene. The driver of the car had left the scene.
“Inquiries were carried out and a 29-year-old man, from Leicestershire, has been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of driving while over the pre- scribed limit.
“The man arrested was found with serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
“He has since been released under investigation in relation to the arrest.
“No other injuries have been reported in relation to the colllision.”
