Driving instructors doing their bit for Children in Need
DRIVING Instructors across Hinckley are doing their bit for Children in Need by taking part in a national campaign called the Big Learner Relay.
More than 3000 miles will be covered by a convoy of cars travelling the UK and Northern Ireland in 17 days to raise money for the annual fundraiser.
Seven instructors from Hinckley are taking part in the campaign and will be welcoming the convoy as it makes its journey from Bardon Hill Sports Club in Coalville and into the town on Thursday November 15.
Estelle Ealden is one of Hinckley’s driving instructors taking part in the convoy, she says: “There are a few Hinckley instructors along with myself going over to Coalville to add to the convoy.
“The route into Hinckley comes from the A447 to the traffic lights turning right down Perimeter Road to Dodwells roundabout, then turning left onto Coventry road and into the town before settling at the Premier Inn for the night.
“We will then be gathering from Friday morning before reaching Silverstone at 12 noon where we will get to drive around in a convoy with other across the country.
“At last year’s finish I think there were over 100 instructors.”
On the Children in Need appeal day on Friday November 16, the top box - which will have travelled the UK - will make its grand finale of a lap or two around Silverstone Race Circuit joined by other participators of the national campaign.
To help raise money for the annual fundraiser, instructors across the country have placed spots on their cars to represent donations from family, friends, fellow instructors and local businesses.
This money has been collected and will be put towards the overall total of the nationwide Big Learner Relay before it is donated to the Children in Need appeal.
“We have either taken cash and put it in our fundraising boxes or people can donate online by texting BEEP85 to 70070 or via the Big Learner Relay website,” adds Estelle.
