Fuel increases hit the region hard

-

MOTORISTS in the East Midlands have seen some of the steepest increases in the cost of petrol and diesel throughout the past 12 months compared to other regions.

According to new data from Confused.com, prices across the region have accelerated with petrol increasing by £0.13p and diesel by £0.16p in the last year alone.

This finding means the average price of petrol per litre hits £1.31 across the region which would on average cost drivers £75 to fill a medium-sized car with fuel, as stated by the Confused.com’s fuel price index.

Amanda Stretton, motoring edi- tor at Confused.com, says: “Fuel prices have accelerated across the UK, and it’s clear the East Midlands have been hit particularly hard with some of the steepest increases over the year.

“Paying for fuel is a necessity, not a luxury, and by using our petrol prices tool, motorists can find the cheapest pumps nearby and save themselves a few pounds off filling their tank.

“Prices of fuel across the UK are the highest on record, according to our fuel price index, and this is really hitting drivers hard.

“Some are spending more on their fuel per month than they do on days out with their loved ones.” Confused.com’s expert report predicts electric vehicles could become more affordable by 2023, however until then, motorists may still be reliant on conventional fuelled cars and their significant costs.
