WADE ON WATER with Richard Wade Close finish as Hicks hooks the honours at Shackersto­ne Open

THERE was a very close finish to Sunday’s Shackersto­ne Open match with just 1/2oz separating the top two! Fished along the Barton Road length Phil Hicks took the honours, catching 3lb 3ozs of small roach, perch and bream. Runner Up Adie Holland landed a superb canal perch of 2lb which boosted his catch to 3lb 21/2ozs. Andy Morton also caught small fish to finish third with 2lb 5ozs.

There was another close finish in Saturday’s Higham Lane Open with just one small carp between the top two. Andy Findlay fished a method feeder on peg 8 to take the honours with a 64lb catch. Martin Ireland pole fished pellet to catch 62lb 11ozs for second place while Jim Spradbury finished third with 46lb 9ozs.

Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match was affected by the heavy over night rain which put the carp off the feed. Steven Zseli landed one of the few carp caught, boosting his catch to a winning 17lb 1ozs. Mick Smith finished second with a 14lb 14oz catch of “silver fish” while Gary Kitching came third with a 13lb 6oz catch. Sunday’s Open match didn’t fish much better although Steve Brindley caught some decent carp to finish well clear with a 45lb 12oz winning catch.

Steve Spencer took the honours in the mid week Maynes Lakes Open match. Steve pole fished sweet corn in the margins to catch a bigger stamp of fish to weigh 37lb 3oz. Result; Pool One, Winner: Colin Bent 33lb 15ozs, peg 41. Pool Two, Winner; Steve Spencer peg 15.

Martin Ireland pole fished pellet on peg 11 to win Higham Lane’s Thursday Open with a 44lb catch of carp. Chris Wayte came second with 42lb 11ozs while Terry Sanderson finished third with 38lb 6ozs.

Danny Ross continued his recent good form by winning Brookfield’s Sunday Open match at Stoke Golding with a 35lb 8oz catch of carp from peg 5. Ray Lewis finished second with 27lb 12ozs while Jamie Horler came third with 9lb 10ozs.

Higham Lane Fishery have Open matches every Thursday and Satur- day, draw for both at 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have their Fine Line Friday, Carp Banned Open contest, draw 9.15am. They also have Open matches on Saturday, draw 9.15am and Sunday, check draw time with Paul.

Measham have their Members Christmas match this Sunday. Draw 8am at the Globe in Snarestone.

Brookfield have an Open match at Stoke Golding this Sunday, draw 9am.

Maynes Lakes have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.
