Barwell through with 10 men

-

DESPITE having Massiah McDonald sent off for two yellow cards inside the first 20 minutes, Barwell showed grit and resilience to hold on for a memorable Trophy win.

Barwell’s central defender Brad Gasgoine and keeper Liam Castle were both outstanding on the day.

St Neots made the early running and Castle was called into early action, twice saving from point blank range. Barwell replied with Brady Hickey shooting over the bar from distance.

After the sending off Barwell retreated into defence, keeping it tight up to half time with disciplined defending.

Barwell showed more attacking ideas in the second half, Jarvan Davison-Miller having a shot cleared off the goalline after beating home keeper Harry Reynolds to the loose ball.

St Neots kept pressing, Dion Semble-Ferris could only hit the side netting and Luke Knight had a long range effort beaten away by Castle.

The decisive goal came 20 minutes from time when substitute Nigel Julien sent over a cross from the right, Hickey headed back across the box and another substitute Sylvan Ebanks-Blake scored from close in.

In the closing minutes a second yellow card was issued to Dylan Williams balancing up the two teams. All these cards issued in a game that hardly boasted a single malicious challenge.

Next Saturday 17th November Barwell are at home to Kings Lynn K.O 3pm
