Anniversary tragedy as man dies in crash
Car was in collision with a bollard in Earl Shilton
A NIGHT of celebration turned to tragedy after a man was killed in a car crash.
The man, in his 30s, and his partner had been out in Earl Shilton celebrating their anniversary together on Saturday night.
The couple were staying at the Travellers’ Inn, in Wood Street.
Around 10 minutes before the crash, police were called to a car park in the street following a report of criminal damage to a green Rover Metro.
The dead man’s brother has told Leicestershire Live, his brother, in his 30s, and his partner had been out in Earl Shilton celebrating their anniversary.
He said: “It’s awful. He and his partner were out celebrating on what should have been a happy night and it ends like this.
“He has a 14-year-old step-son and I have to explain to my four kids that their uncle is gone.”
ACCIDENT HAPPENED SHORT TIME AFTER ANOTHER INCIDENT IN THE CAR PARK
Police are now looking into the exact circumstances of the death. Wood Street was closed for about seven hours after the crash so accident investigators could assess the scene.

A force spokesman said the driver was confirmed dead at the scene.

“If anyone was in the area of Wood Street or Leicester Road and saw the car between 10.50pm and 11pm on Saturday please contact police. Information you have could help with our investigation.”
A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “Following enquiries, two men aged 19 and 32, have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and released pending further investigation.
“A short time after the initial incident the Metro returned to the area and collided with a street bollard resulting in the death of the driver.”
