College has made good progress says Ofsted
Merger created college two years ago
INSPECTORS have praised progress at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College since it was created by a merger two years ago.
Ofsted inspectors visited the college, with bases in Wigston, Hinckley and Nuneaton, in October for a two day monitoring visit.
In a report published this week Ofsted says the college has made significant progress in meeting the needs of its students, the local community and employers and has enhanced the rigour of its governing body.
The report also says the college is managing financial pressures well along with raising achievements in maths, English, travel, tourism, catering and motor vehicle maintenance. The inspectors highlight how more students now get high grades at GCSE English. They say a significant proportion of students go on to positive next steps including jobs, further and higher education.
They also say there are action plans to improve poorly performing subjects such as health and social care, access to higher education and sport.
The inspectors praised governors for setting up a system to monitor student progress and check everyone is on track to meet their target grade. And they praise governors for making sure teachers improve their skills.
Marion Plant, principal and chief executive said, “We are delighted with the outcome of the recent visit by Ofsted which reflects the high standards achieved by the College. The report is a fitting recognition of the considerable progress we have made over the last two years since our merger in improving the quality of teaching and learning, and the student experience.
“This endorsement by Ofsted properly reflects the effort and ambition of our students, the hard work of our staff and the support of our governing body.
“The report is an important document that we will use in ensuring even greater progress in the future.
“We were aware that there are some areas for improvement in a minority of areas and have already started to address those issues. Ofsted’s judgements have provided us with a clear agenda to follow in continuing to ensure that North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College is a fantastic place to learn.”
