Young trumpeter to play town concert
A YOUNG trumpeter is set to perform in Hinckley.
Matilda Lloyd and her accompanist Leo Nicholson will be in action at Holy Trinity Church.
Their programme will include works for trumpet and piano by Giovanni Martini, Antonio Vivaldi and Claude Debussy together with piano solos by Domenico Scarlatti and George Gershwin.
Also on the playlist is Seven Halts on the Somme by contemporary composer Deborah Pritchard which commemorates 100 years of the Battle of the Somme.
Ms Lloyd won her first international competition aged 22 in October 2017 and had her solo debut at BBC Proms in July 2016 performing the third movement of Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto at the Royal Albert Hall.
She’s also played with the BBC Concert Orchestra for Friday Night if Music Night and live on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune Proms Special and on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.
She is reading for her Masters degree at the Royal Academy of Music having graduated with a First Class degree in Music from Trinity College Cambridge.
The talented trumpeter is supported by Making Music’s Philip and Dorothy Green Young Artists Scheme.
Mr Nicholson specialises in chamber music and song accompaniment.
He was a Leeds Lieder Young Artist in 2018 and received the Accompanist Prize at the Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards in 2016.
He studied at the Purcell School, the Junior Royal Northern College of Music and is currently studying accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music.
The performance is on November 24 and begins at 7pm.
Admission is £12 for adults, £5 for students and free for accompanied children.
