A YOUNG woman was left with a threeinch gash across her face and other injuries after a hit-and-run.

Heaven Sheldon, who has just turned 19, works at a day centre for people with learning difficulties in Hinckley.

She was walking to the nearby branch of Tesco to buy supplies for their activities when a car hit her from behind.

She said: “I was walking down the street and the car came from behind and I didn’t see it at all.

“I can’t remember being hit or anything. I just remember picking myself off the ground and there being blood everywhere.”

Heaven, who lives in Burbage, thinks the car hit her right leg and knocked her forward into a lamppost, which caused her facial injuries.

She said: “I was in a lot of pain. I still am. I’m probably going to have the scar on my forehead for life and might need some plastic surgery to sort it out.

“I was in hospital for a day and given lots of painkillers.”

Heaven’s other injuries included eight damaged teeth and cuts and bruises including a bad leg injury.

After the collision, people nearby heard Heaven’s screams and rushed to help her.

She said: “I’m so angry at whoever did this to me. I can’t believe they didn’t stop.

“It could have been a complete accident but if something like that happens, surely you hold your hands up and say you did it – you don’t drive off.”

Her mum, Zoe Hall, said: “The threeinch laceration on her forehead goes all the way to the bone and she’s covered in cuts and bruises. ’’

Zoe took to Facebook to plead for the motorist to hand themselves in.

She wrote: “I hope you never see your child bleeding at the side of the road, because someone hurt them and didn’t care. I hope you never hold their bleeding head or see their skull.

“I hope you never hold their hand while a doctor stitches their head back together. I hope you never sit and watch them crying while their teeth are being fixed. I hope you never have to explain to two little sisters why someone hurt their big sister.

“I hope you never sit up all night watching your child because you are too scared to sleep in case something happens when you do. I hope you do the right thing and own up!”

The incident happened at about 9.50am on Friday, November 9 and police are appealing for witnesses and for the driver to hand themselves in.

A police spokeswoman said: “The car involved was reported to have left the scene and anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101, quoting incident 195 of November 9.”
