Sleeping Beauty at the Belgrade Theatre

AS Christmas is just around the corner it is time to get ready for the dreamiest pantomime performanc­e as Sleeping Beauty heads to the Belgrade Theatre.

Returning for his 24th Belgrade Theatre pantomime will be writer and director Iain Lauchlan who is best known as the writer of the Bafta-winning series The Tweenies, among other popular television shows.

This year, Iain will be taking on the role of Nanny McWheeze, joined by regular partner in crime Craig Hollingswo­rth as Muddles the Jester.

Together the comedy double-act will be working to assist Prince Valiant, Joanna Thorne, on his quest to rescue the sleeping princess Belle played by Melissa Brown-Taylor.

Supporting the heroes as the good fairy will be Anna Mitcham - but setting out to foil their plans with cunning schemes will be Laura Judge as the wicked fairy Carabosse.

When Princess Belle pricks her finger on an enchanted spinning wheel, she is cursed to fall asleep for 100 years, that is unless she is kissed by her one true love.

Enter her knight in shining armour Prince Valiant, along with Nanny McWheeze and Muddles who collective­ly embark on an adventure to save the princess from her terrible fate.

Sleeping Beauty runs at the Belgrade, Coventry from Wednesday November 21 until Saturday January 5.
