Fes­tive fun in store this De­cem­ber in and around the bor­ough

IT’S that time of the year again, the bit­ter frost greets you as you walk out the door, the streets are glow­ing with sparkling lights and the fes­tive spirit is mount­ing.

Christ­mas is a time for laugh­ter, over in­dulging, silly jumpers and mak­ing mem­o­ries with your loved ones.

If the smell of mince pies and gin­ger­bread aren’t enough to get you in the mood for Christ­mas, an ar­ray of events and ac­tiv­i­ties across the bor­ough and sur­round­ing ar­eas might just do the trick.

Re­porter Danielle Eas­ton has put to­gether a round up of some of the fes­tive events this Christ­mas.

Bos­worth Bat­tle­field Her­itage Cen­tre Christ­mas Fayre

Novem­ber 30 The fes­tive sea­son is here and tis’ the sea­son to be jolly so the Bos­worth Bat­tle­field Her­itage Cen­tre has or­gan­ised a Christ­mas Fayre suitable for all the fam­ily.

Santa’s Grotto, a per­for­mance from St Peter’s Church of Eng­land School Choir, ar­ti­san and craft stalls as well as re­fresh­ments will all be avail­able on the day.

Stall hold­ers will be dis­play­ing a va­ri­ety of Christ­mas gift ideas from tex­tiles, bas­kets and lights to ed­i­ble gifts, cakes, bis­cuits and tray bakes.

Burty Baker, Lit­tle Stitch House, The Tar­tan Art Stu­dio and In­te­rior Plant Cre­ations are amongst those show­cas­ing their pro­duce and crafts.

The event is free to en­ter and food and drinks will be avail­able too.

The Christ­mas Fayre will take place on Fri­day Novem­ber 30 from 6pm till 9pm.

Bos­worth Bat­tle­field Park Snow­man trea­sure hunt, De­cem­ber Over at Bos­worth Bat­tle­field’s park fes­tive res­i­dents have been hid­den and the cen­tre is en­cour­ag­ing you to find them.

A snow­man trea­sure hunt will be go­ing on through­out De­cem­ber start­ing on Satur­day 1 to Sun­day De­cem­ber 30, tak­ing place ev­ery day from 10am till 3.30pm.

The hunt costs £2 per child and col­lec­tion sheets can be picked up from the ticket of­fice be­fore re­turn­ing them to re­deem your prize.

Conkers, Swadlin­cote, Win­ter

Won­der­land, De­cem­ber It is time to wrap up warm and get ready for a silly elf ad­ven­ture out of the bor­ough as Conkers opens up its Win­ter Won­der­land just in time for Christ­mas.

Santa’s chief elf and his team will lead guests through the en­chanted for­est and the val­ley of Christ­mas lights to dis­cover Santa’s hid­den wood­land grotto.

Young­sters will then have the chance to chat to Santa and de­pend­ing on how good they have been, re­ceive an early gift from him.

Dur­ing the visit guests can take a trip on Head Elf’s twin­kle toes train through the tun­nel of dis­cov­ery to watch Christ­mas shows and films and if they are not quite in the Christ­mas spirit al­ready, vis­i­tors will then find the snow cave ready for sto­ry­time and ac­tiv­i­ties.

New to 2018, fam­i­lies can also use their Win­ter Won­der­land ticket to ac­cess Conkers Dis­cov­ery.

As part of this, vis­i­tors will get to ex­pe­ri­ence Christ­mas magic in 4D at the Conkers cin­ema as well as ac­cess to the in­door ex­hibit area, war­rens, ranger crafts and over 80 acres of out­door walks.

No Christ­mas ex­pe­ri­ence would be com­plete with­out Santa’s trusty side­kicks ei­ther, so live rein­deer will also be on site through­out the day from 11am till 4.30pm.

The event will run from Satur­day De­cem­ber 1 to Christ­mas Eve on Mon­day De­cem­ber 24.

Win­ter Won­der­land will be open from 10.30am till 8pm and till 5pm on Christ­mas Eve.

Upon book­ing, guests must se­lect a 30 minute time slot through­out the day and these will be avail­able till 7.30pm.

Ten2 Gallery , Christ­mas card mak­ing, De­cem­ber dates If the out­doors isn’t your thing then artist Sarah Holden has the per­fect in­door ac­tiv­ity for all of you craft-lovers.

In two work­shops held at the Ten2 Gallery, guests will re­ceive a step by step guide on how to de­sign and carve their very own sets of Christ­mas cards this fes­tive sea­son.

All ma­te­ri­als will be in­cluded in the price for the two work­shops which will cost £40 per per­son, tak­ing place on both Satur­day De­cem­ber 1 and Satur­day De­cem­ber 8 from 2pm till 4pm.

Fes­tive Fam­ily Fun Run, Hinck­ley

Town Cen­tre, De­cem­ber 9 This Christ­mas Hinck­ley BID has or­gan­ised the town’s first ever Fes­tive Fam­ily Fun Run.

The town’s Mar­ket Place will be trans­formed by run­ning snow­men, san­tas, elves and rein­deers as res­i­dents com­pete for the ti­tle of Best Cos­tume to be re­warded with the £50 voucher prize, while two lucky run­ners-up will be handed vouch­ers worth £25.

All par­tic­i­pants are en­cour­aged to dress fes­tively whether dress­ing up as a char­ac­ter or wear­ing your favourite Christ­mas jumper and those who do so, will all be awarded a neck medal for get­ting into the fes­tive spirit.

The Fun Run it­self starts at 11am on Sun­day De­cem­ber 9. Prior to the start there will be a 30 minute warm-up by the res­i­dent Healthy Elf from 10.30am.

All age groups and abil­i­ties are wel­come to take part in the event, as well as well-be­haved dogs who are urged to dress up too.
