Hit ‘n’ Hope storm to victory over title contenders Market Bosworth

IN Division 1 of the Table Tennis League title contenders Market Bosworth 1 surprising­ly lost to Hit’n’Hope A by 3 sets to 7. The Doc Harrison (H&H) was in outstandin­g form collecting three fine wins including a close five game set with Bosworth’s John Veasey, finally winning the fifth 11-6 to collect the victory. HIT ‘n’ Hope A continued their winning ways collecting another victory over Cat F by 9 sets to 1.

Hit’n’Hope B could not contain Cat G in their recent match, despite an excellent two for Steve Lawton (H&HB), they found the Desford side in good form. Anna Tomczuk winning her three for Cat G. In their next match Cat G continued their recent good form with a 9 sets to 1 win over Market Bosworth B. Tomczuk again unbeaten. She must currently be the find of the season for Cat G and remains undefeated in the league.

G Ward E had a good win over Cat F by 8 sets to 2, Dave Richardson (GWE) win- ning his three. In their next game they collected another win, this time over their own G Ward F team. Richardson again winning his three.

This was a much closer match than the score suggests with no fewer than eight sets going to either four or five games. Young James Walker particular­ly unlucky in his match with the improved Frankie Hallam just going down 9-11 in the fifth. The young players of G Ward F also lost to league leaders Cat D by 10 sets to 0. G Ward’s Tom Kelly taking all three Cat D players to four or five games before losing all three.

Cat D repeated the 10 sets to 0 score-line when they took on one of their rivals G Ward C. The Desford side have run into a fine vein of form at the moment, which has taken them to the top of the table.

Market Bosworth B fought hard in their recent match with Cat E just losing by 4 sets to 6. Leanne Bancroft (MB2) collecting two wins, with her team-mates Lucy Nash and Jessica Clarke both winning their first games of the season.

Congratula­tions to Hastings High School Boys Under 16 team are Leicesters­hire Schools County Champions, with good wins over Limehurst and English Martyrs was followed by a comprehens­ive win over Manor High School by 12 sets to 4 to secure their title. All four of the lads play for the George Ward Club in the Hinckley League. They will now move on to play in the regional event shortly.
