WADE ON WATER with Richard Wade

-

After the first three hours just three fish had been caught in Lychgate Fisheries midweek Open match. But as the day warmed up fish started to feed and catches finished up much better than expected.

Chris Duffy had struggled on the pole but an enforced switch to rod and reel feeder tactics; after bank walker Paul Bates had slipped over and broke one of his pole sections, paid off and he finished the match with a winning 43lb catch of carp. Eric Lillyman weighed 28lb 10ozs to take second place while Ian Shirley finished third with an 18lb 2oz catch.

The third round of Shackerstone’s Onstyle Lifting sponsored series was fished along the Monthills length. A single 3lb 4oz zander landed five minutes from the end gave Phil Baker the honours. Runner up Doug Dimbleby had worked hard catching small roach and finished second with 1lb 13ozs with Pete Deakin taking third place with a 1lb 1oz catch of small perch. With one round to go Pete Billington leads the series with 14 points.

Terry Sanderson took the honours in Higham Lane’s Saturday Open. Drawn on peg 8, Terry fished bomb and cheese to catch a very respectable 81lb 11ozs of carp. Darren Milne fin- ished second for the second week, weighing 52lb 9ozs from peg 21. Andy Findlay came third with 40lb 7ozs.

With temperatures falling overnight, sport was difficult for most in Maynes Lakes Wednesday Open. Chris Edwards found some carp willing to feed, catching steadily throughout the match to finish with a 30lb 6oz top catch. Result; Pool One, Winner; Chris Edwards peg 34. Pool Two, Winner; Ian Stripp peg 4, 12lb 12ozs.

There was also a heavy overnight frost before Higham Lane’s Thursday Open match. John Varley needed just 19lb 11ozs from peg 11 to win. Alan Grewcock finished second with a 16lb catch while Chris Wayte came third with 15lb 11ozs.

Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open produced a win for Colin Chapman who pole fished pellet on peg 36 to catch 23lb of bream and five good carp to finish well clear with a 68lb 12oz total. Steve Brindley came second with 25lb 10oz of bream and carp.

Brookfield’s Open match at Stoke Golding on Sunday was their hardest of the year so far. Stu Campton took the honours with just 6lb 10ozs from peg 3. Ray Lewis came second with 4lb 14ozs from peg 21 while Ian Shirley finished third with 2lb 13ozs.
