Top award for take away
A HUSBAND and wife duo from Barwell were hailed the nation’s best chefs.
Strad and Gina Kyriacou of Chris’s Fish and Chips were elated to win Best Takeaway Chef in Britain at the British Takeaway Awards.
The pair announced they had bagged the prize in a post on the chippy’s Facebook page.
It said: “What an amazing night at The Savoy Palace, to have our award presented to us by David Walliams was just brilliant.
“Bringing back the trophy and title of Best Chef in Britain to Barwell will be an honour.
“Thanks to everyone, love you all.”
More than 80 people commented below the post to say congratulations.

“Brilliant chippy and your chicken kebabs are a favourite in our house.”
The top chip shop uses 99 per cent recyclable and biodegradable packaging and donates all its leftovers.
All ingredients are locally sourced including MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) sustainable fish and they avoid using palm oil.
Strad and Gina make their own batter and offer customers the choice to have their fish battered, plain or grilled.
They also add seasonal items to the menu such as a Cranberry and Brandy Batter at Christmas as well as lesser known fish varieties.
The shop recently started offering foodbank vouchers to provide hot meals for those in need.
The vouchers are valid for a week at a time with a set menu for people to choose from.
They are limited to those within a two-mile radius of the shop or for others who can get access to the shop.
The culinary couple’s talents extend to singing on the X Factor, which featured them in action during the Just Eat-sponsored ad breaks on the ITV show.
They sang Hungry like the Wolf by Duran Duran and Next to Me by Emeli Sandé.
