Homes plan for depot
A FORMER council depot is to be redeveloped with 54 affordable homes.
Ten one bedroomed flats, 30 two bedroomed homes and 14 three bedroomed homes are to be built on the former council depot in Middlefield Lane, Hinckley.
Half of the new homes will be affordable rented housing. The others will be split between shared ownership and rent to buy.
Planners at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council at a recent meeting gave permission for the development highlighting the need for affordable housing in Hinckley.
A report for the council’s planning committee said: “The requirement therefore to provide 2090 affordable dwellings by 2026 is not on track to being met and the proposed development of 54 dwellings with no market dwelling provision should be given significant weight as it would make a contribution towards meeting this identified need.”
As a condition of building the houses the developers will have to provide two six month bus passes for each home. They will also have to pay more than £100,000 towards nearby open spaces and playgrounds and £27,000 towards the NHS.
