Clearing up after Storm Diana

-

LEICESTERSHIRE County Council’s highway teams have been hitting the roads and clearing up trees that have fallen in the aftermath of Storm Diana.

The Met Office had warned that strong winds and heavy rain could cause disruption across the county, leaving authority’s crews on standby to help keep the roads moving.

Around 14 calls were made throughout the day last week with people needing to have trees removed from blocking the roads in Loughborough, Melton, Harborough, Hinckley and Measham.

Councillor Blake Pain, lead member for environment and transport, said: “Our forestry teams are very busy dealing with the aftermath of Storm Diana, clearing roads and footpaths where trees and branches have fallen.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and resources will be available if needed. However, we would urge motorcyclists and pedestrians to take extra care.”

The authority is also encouraging residents to check for any unusual changes in their trees over the next days and weeks.

Residents should ask themselves; Are there any cracks in the tree which were not there a day or so ago?

Are there any cracks or humps in the soil which were not there a day or so ago?

Are there any hanging branches in the tree which could fall?

Fallen trees or road issues can be reported by calling the council on 0116 305 0001.
