More changes to junction is a pointless waste of money
AUSTERITY may have been declared as over (???), but this does not give local councils the authority to spend money on high profile but pointless projects just because some cash has mysteriously become available.
I am referring of course to the intention to make another set of changes to the crossroads at the Hub on Rugby Road.
It was only a few years ago that in their wisdom LCC created the situation we have now, again using the justification of improving traffic flows and we all know how successful that turned out to be and heaven knows what it cost!
They produced no before and after figures to support the expenditure at the time and so were able to conveniently sidestep any accountability for making a difficult situation even worse. Now looks like we will see an exact repeat.
They of course rely on our short memories, so I hope our local councillors make sure they don’t make the same mistake twice and spend a shed-load of money to no good effect.
So lets see some proper figures this time – some measure of traffic flow as it is now with a promise of what improvements any proposed changes will make – reductions in queueing times etc. With the continued problems with funding the NHS etc. we cannot allow local authorities to continue spending on a whim and a prayer without a very clear value-for-money justification for which they can genuinely be held accountable. it D Hamilton
