Former farmer is elected to lead club

A former farmer has swapped the fields for the bowling green after being elected as the new president of Earl Shilton’s Kingscroft Bowls Club.

David Orton was elected at the annual general meeting when predecesso­r Eddie Newell, also announced that £600 had been raised for the Matt Hampson Foundation who support and inspire seriously injured young sportsmen and women.

However, David isn’t the only member of Kingscroft to be appointed a new role.

President elect has been appointed to Tom Clancy and the new men’s club captain is Joe Dawson.

Other members who have been re-elected include chairman Rick Morris, secretary Mick Harris, treasurer John York, green ranger and bowls developmen­t officer Alan Hemsley, greenkeepe­r Joe Dawson and ladies’ club captain Pam Sutton.

At the awards evening numerous members were also recognised for their achievemen­ts with John Carsley taking player of the year, John King receiving the winner of the Saturday friendly fixtures league award and the G Seller Trophy for open pairs being won by Ken Delahay and Kath Fudger.

Other notable achievemen­ts by the clubs’ mem- bers include Jamie-Lea Winch being named in the England squad for 2019 as well as her mixed pairs partner Joe Dawson who was a trialist again this year and is squad reserve for 2019.

Barbara Lewis was county runner-up in the national senior singles and other country successes came from SallyAnn Lewis-Wall and pairs winners Nicola Hughes and Jamie-Lea Winch.

Bringing the titles home for the men was runner up Darren Delahay in the county singles, Joe Dawson who won two wood singles and Lol Chamberlai­n, Chris Moore and Joe Dawson who took home the triples title.
