Market Bosworth challenge going well

-

PHASE two of the December Challenge was completed successfully on Saturday with a 29 – 7 win over Long Buckby.

As reported in last week’s Hinckley Times, Bosworth’s Coach Nick Jackson, issued a Challenge to the team to collect at least thirteen points during December and that tally has already reached 10 with two wins and both games collecting a try bonus.

Early signs were that Saturday’s game was going to be easy when Ben Ashdown ran through the opposition in the first few minutes to score an unconverted try near the posts.

The visitors, however, pulled themselves together and presented a formidable defence which held up until the half hour mark when their full back fumbled the ball on his own line.

From the resulting scrum Bosworth were able to get a push over try credited to Ricky Wickwar. The strong cross wind was causing the place kicker some problems as he failed for the second time. Bos- worth’s third try came from a line out just inside the Long Buckby half when all the threes got involved in some impressive handling moves to get the strong running Harry Milner through to score.

This time Joe Randon found the range and slotted the conversion over.

The bonus point try came just before half time when Harry Handford crossed in the corner giving Randon a difficult kick into the wind but he had got the measure of it by this time and the kick was successful.

With the half time score at twenty four nil in Bosworth’s favour it looked as though it was going to be a very one sided affair but Long Buckby found some inspiration from somewhere and although Bosworth managed to get to within fifteen metres of the visitor’s line it was Long Buckby who scored first.

Having fought back to gain ground to the other end of the pitch and after several five metre scrums they eventually got a well deserved pushover try and conversion.

The final move of the game was text book stuff with the Bosworth team drawing all the opposition defence to one side of their twenty two a delicate kick across the pitch found the nicely placed Ricky Wickwar waiting for the ball who was then able to almost stroll across the line unopposed.

The final score was Market Bosworth 29 Long Buckby 7. This week Market Bosworth are away to Vipers for the last game of this half of the season.
