Leader meets up with party

-

LEADER of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Vince Cable, visited the town recently to discuss problems with education under-funding and to engage with Lib Dem supporters.

On his visit to Hinckley Academy and North Warwickshire and Hinckley college, Vince Cable said: “The message that was clearly being put across was the lack of funding for education. This is particularly a problem in Leicestershire which has one of the lowest levels of funding in the country, with Leicestershire getting nearly £5,000 less per pupil than the best funded schools.

“I’m glad to hear that Lib Dem Councillors are arguing the case for fair funding for Leicestershire schools.”

The Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Hinckley and Bosworth, Councillor Michael Mullaney added: “It was excellent to have Vince Cable visit Hinckley to hear about our local campaigns and the need for fairer education spending for Leicestershire.

“Hinckley and Bosworth was rated in the lowest 10 places in the country for social mobility recently. It’s vital that every local young person gets the chance of a quality education that is properly funded to give them the best chance of succeeding in life.”

Sir Vince concluded: “It was good to meet the local Lib Dem team, they need to gain only six seats to win back Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council from the Conservatives in May.

“Whilst at the last general election the Lib Dem vote in Bosworth was the highest number of votes for the Lib Dems in any seat in the Midlands.”
