Village carnival benefits good causes
GOOD causes in Barwell received proceeds from the village’s carnival.
The annual Share The Wealth event involved Barwell Carnival Association giving out monies to not-for-profit groups and charities in the village.
This year’s event was held at the AFC Barwell Pavilion.
Those who received donations included AFC Barwell, Barwell and Earl Shilton Disability Group, Barwell Scouts, Barwell and Earl Shilton Lions, Barwell Bloomers, and Barwell Barn Owls.
A special donation was also made to the mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth councillor Jan Kirby’s charities.
Further donations were given to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which supports families with children being treated at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
A large donation of sanitary products were donated to Barwell woman April Gibbs’ campaign to help tackle period poverty, as part of the Code Red campaign.
Barwell Scout Harrison Marston was also presented with his prize for designing the winning carnival programme cover.
The presentations were made by carnival president Gail Smith.
Barwell Carnival Association chair Mathew Hulbert said: “It was a fantastic evening.
“It’s always wonderful to be able to give back to so many good causes who do so much to help with the Carnival, not just on the day itself but also by being part of the committee throughout the year.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who played a part in making this year’s Carnival such a success.”
