Society staff give to a good cause
Yarn bombers create festive village display
A WOOLLY welcome for the festive season was on show in Stoney Stanton.
The village’s yarn bombers made a range of Christmasthemed bollard covers and other adornments including a bright array of decorations for outside trees.
The decorations were in place in time for the village’s light switch on.
Stoney Stanton Parish Council shared some pictures of the items in a post on its Facebook page.
It said: “Thank you to the yarn bomb team, another lovely display to brighten the village centre.” STAFF members from Hinckley and Rugby Building Society have donated useful everyday items and essentials to a Christmas appeal which provides care packages for the homeless.
The annual Collect for Christmas appeal is run by the volunteering charity, Leicestershire Cares and there are more than 25 firms across the region who support the generous cause.
This year, Hinckley and Rugby Building Society have once again donated essentials for the charity’s essential packs as well as contributing £250 to buy some of the items on the appeal wish list.
Assistant training and service quality manager, Sam Roberts, who helped organise the donations from her team, said: “Christmas is a time when we should really try and think about those less fortunate and the collection was such an easy way to make a difference.
“We were all very happy to get behind the collection and support a really important cause affecting many local people.”
The starter packs will be given to people and families to use in their kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms as they begin to settle into refuges, hostels and new homes.
Their packs will include crockery, tea towels, cutlery, dishcloths, kettles, toasters, mugs, bedding, toiletries and kitchen utensils which will help people to cook, sleep, eat and clean at their next home.
Cuddly toys and night lights have also been provided to help young children to feel safe and warm.
