Public toilets closed after vandal attack

-

VANDALS have forced a public toilets in Barwell to close after smashing toilet roll holders.

The men’s toilets in Top Town were closed until further notice after the damage.

The incident was reported to Police.

Barwell Parish Council chairman Barry Granger said: “We’ve been having problems with the toilets for about 18 months, people keep stealing the toilet rolls so we’ve replaced the holder with lockable units.

“Now these have been kicked and smashed off the wall and the supersized toilet rolls taken and stuffed down the men’s toilet.

“The new toilet roll units cost over £200 each plus the previous ones cost £170 each so this is why the men’s toilets will be closed until the New Year.

“Unfortunately this is an ongoing issue and we really are getting fed up and disappointed in the constant damage and costly repairs.

“The Parish Council has spent approximately £5,000 upgrading and refurbishing these public toilets in the last few years”.

The council said in a post on its website: “It is sad that this has happened after the parish council have worked hard to keep these public toilets open for the residents and visitors of Barwell.”
